The special general council meeting of Thamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-politician Vijay, was held this morning at a private hall in Mamallapuram.

This was the first major meeting after a brief pause in party activities following the tragic Karur rally incident on September 27, where 41 people lost their lives due to a crowd crush.
More than 2,000 council members attended the meeting. A key resolution was passed proposing Vijay as the party’s Chief Minister candidate for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. Another resolution granted TVK Vijay full authority to decide on electoral alliances and other major political strategies.

The general council also passed 12 important resolutions, including:
1. Condolence for the Karur tragedy victims.
2. Women’s safety resolution.
3. Demand to stop the controversial voter list revision process that affects democratic voting rights.
4. Criticism of the government for failing to properly procure crops in the Delta region, causing paddy to rot in rain.
5. Call for immediate flood preparedness measures ahead of the Northeast monsoon.
6. Demand to cancel private construction approval in protected Ramsar wetlands.
7. Request for equal security for Vijay and the public attending TVK events.
8. Condemnation of false propaganda spread by ruling party sympathizers against TVK leaders.
9. Demand for a white paper on industrial investments and job creation in Tamil Nadu.
10. Condemnation of the government for arresting people who express opinions on public issues, violating freedom of speech.
11. Condemnation of the arrest of 35 fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
12. Granting full authority to Vijay on forming alliances for the 2026 elections.
With these resolutions, TVK made its political stance clear — to contest the 2026 state elections under Vijay’s leadership, with a focus on accountability, safety, and people’s rights.
